Remembering Dr. P C Markanda, the Father of Indian Arbitration

Dr. P C Markanda (1966- 2021)

The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it- William James. The greatness of the life of a person is decided by the legacy that one leaves behind.

On the 18th of October, 2021 Dr. P C Markanda left us for his heavenly abode. While the entire legal fraternity is saddened by the demise of the great soul, CADR celebrates his life and acknowledges his journey inspiring, encouraging and motivating innumerable lives.

A Doctor of Laws (LLD). Dr. Markanda was a connoisseur of the legal field and an ardent virtuoso in Alternative Dispute Resolution. He authors several legal publications on topics such as arbitration and conciliation, construction and contracts, partnership law, and mediation. Practising at the national and international levels, he had over 50 publications in renowned national and international journals. He served as vice-president of the Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) for two consecutive terms (2007-2008 and 2008-2009) and as a member of its governing council for ten consecutive terms.

Dr. Markanda was truly a guiding light for youngsters who were inspired through his impeccable knowledge, acumen and zeal. Dr. Markanda has been an integral part of all activities of CADR-RGNUL since its inception and we feel blessed to have be associated with him.

We, at CADR commemorate his legacy and he shall forever live in the hearts of the numerous souls he touched and inspired.
