Updated: Oct 21

Dear Reader,

Greetings from The Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR), Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab.

We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

We are elated to bring to you the next issue of the CADR Newsletter. The Ninth Issue of the Third Volume  of the CADR Newsletter is now out.

September has witnessed a great many exciting developments in the ADR universe.

The Indian Supreme Court in DLF Home Developers Ltd. v. Rajapura Homes Pvt. Ltd. & Anr. has ruled that a reference to arbitration can be declined if the dispute is not related to the arbitration agreement The Expedited Arbitration Rules adopted by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) have come into force as well. The Colombian Government has approached ICSID over the dispute raised by Eco Oro shareholders.

The mediation world has observed some noteworthy developments as well. The Government of India will be introducing a new bill on Mediation in the upcoming winter session of the parliament. Quebec (Canada) has launched a pilot Youth Centric Mediation Project, wherein they encourage parents and families to consider and seek alternative methods to purely legal processes to resolve conflicts.

All this, and more, in the Newsletter for the month of September!

It’s been a busy month for us at CADR too, as we continue serving the ADR Community with events and research. CADR conducted an “Assignment-Based Workshop on The Importance of Seat of Arbitration” in association with the Beihai Asia International Arbitration Centre (BAIAC). Prof. Steve Ngo, President, Beihai Asia International Arbitration Centre and Ms. Yvette Anthony, Associate Director, LVM Law Chambers LLC Singapore were the speakers for the event. CADR also conducted a Mock Mediation as well as a Mock Client Counselling Round for the Batch of 2026 in order to acquaint the students with the technical and procedural understanding of Mediation and Client Counselling sessions.

The Newsletter initiative began with the observation that there exists a lacuna in the provision of information relating to ADR to the practicing community, and we wanted to provide a solution to the same. In keeping with that, we are glad to have many practitioners and students subscribe to the Newsletter and the Blog after the launch of the first issue.

To subscribe to the CADR Newsletter, you may send us an email at adrc@rgnul.ac.in. Additionally, you may subscribe to the CADR Blog via our homepage and you will receive a notification whenever we launch a volume of the Newsletter.

As always, we await with bated breath for your feedback on our Newsletter. We hope to hear from you soon!
